This weekend downtown DeKalb will be a live music and art scene. The city is hosting Middlewest Fest, beginning today and running through Saturday evening, Sept. 11.
Middlewest Fest will offer a variety of music entertainment, along with local art shows, and an independent film festival. Local bands Chris Dertz and State Champs along with national acts Murder By Death and the Smoking Popes are among the 75 bands scheduled to perform over the two-day event at various downtown venues. Middlewest Fest events will be held at the Egyptian Theatre, Otto’s Nightclub, The House Café, Tapalaluna, O’Leary’s Pub, Upper Deck Sports Bar and SMLTWN Skate Shop.
Middlewest Fest will include an Art Market in Van Buer Plaza directly across from the Egyptian Theatre. The Against the Wall film festival Saturday will feature independent films by regional and NIU filmmakers. The film festival is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. at Debutante’s School of Cosmetology on North Third Street.
