The NIU community was forever changed Feb. 14, 2008.
Students, faculty, staff, alumni and supporters from near and far banded together to move “Forward, Together Forward.”
The Forward, Together Forward Scholarship Endowment was created through the generosity of more than 1,770 donors to honor the five Huskies whose lives were lost: Gayle Dubowski, Catalina Garcia, Julianna Gehant, Ryanne Mace and Daniel Parmenter. Their impact and legacy will live on through warm thoughts and memories as well as through the Northern Illinois University Forward, Together Forward Scholarship.
The Forward, Together Forward Scholarship is one of NIU’s most prestigious and unique scholarships for undergraduate students.
In addition to requiring solid academic credentials, applicants must also demonstrate strength of character through traits such as a strong work ethic, motivation, inspiration, a high regard for others, integrity and intellectual curiosity.
Forward, Together Forward Scholarship recipients are expected to carry on the memories and good works of the NIU students who were lost. Past recipients (2009 and 2010) all have exhibited great character, drive and ambition, as evidenced through leadership and extensive service to others.
The Scholarship Office is now accepting applications for the Forward, Together Forward Scholarship. Up to five $4,000 scholarships will be awarded for the 2011-2012 academic year. Additional information, including the application and instructions, are online.
