Workshops offer skills for fitness instructors

NIU Campus Recreation and the National Exercise Trainers Association (NETA), a nonprofit fitness professional association, are co-sponsoring two nationally recognized workshops: group exercise certification and boxing fusion.

The Group Exercise Certification workshop will be on Saturday, April 1, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. In this workshop, potential and current fitness instructors will learn basic academic and practical applications of teaching group exercise. No college, science or teaching background required. Workshop registration includes a full-day review, written exam and two-year certification. The fee for this workshop is $299; early bird fee of $249, if registered before March 2.

The second workshop, Boxing Fusion, will be the following day on Sunday, April 2, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. This workshop is for those who are interested in incorporating boxing movements into their group exercise class. Attendees will learn basic boxing techniques and how to fuse elements of plyometrics and strength to make a 30-minute, high-intensity circuit, guaranteed to get your participants the toned and powerful body of a boxer. Learn how to design classes using a simple 30-minute format that will make class easy to follow, but tough to do! Note: this course will review the basic boxing fundamentals and in a non-contact format. The fee for this workshop is $119.

Register online for these workshops or call 800-237-6242.
