Eyeglasses sought for alternative spring break project

January 30, 2017

Students at NIU’s Health Professions House are collecting used eyeglasses to distribute during an alternative spring break trip the Mayan communities in Chiapas, Mexico. Both prescription and reading glasses are sought and can be dropped off through March 1 at Wirtz Hall 227 (dean’s office) or sent through campus mail addressed to Sandi Splansky, Wirtz Hall 227. Be sure to put the glasses in a case or wrap them.

Students and recent graduates, led by NIU nursing instructor JoEllyn Ryan, will provide free health assessments, treatment and health education to the people in these communities. They will also distribute eyeglasses, which are particularly helpful as vision care is extremely limited in these communities.
