Saalfeld appointed acting director of admissions

January 12, 2017

saalfeld-2NIU announced today that Katy Saalfeld, currently senior associate director for recruitment and outreach, will take on the role of acting director of admissions on February 1, succeeding Dani Rollins, who is moving on to become chief enrollment officer and director of undergraduate admissions at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Saalfeld will take on all admissions-related responsibilities currently under Rollins and will report to Harlan Teller, interim vice president of Enrollment Management, Marketing and Communications.

Other enrollment management functions that Rollins supervised, including Orientation and Family Connections and Financial Aid and Scholarships, will report directly to Teller. The university has embarked on a search process for recruiting a permanent successor to Teller, whose interim term as leader of the newly-constituted division concludes on June 30.

“Katy Saalfeld has worked hand in glove with Dani Rollins over the past two years to build a strong recruitment team and brings to her new role eleven years of experience at NIU, all of it in either direct recruitment or building and leading recruitment teams,” Teller said.  “I’m confident that she has the energy, expertise and relationship skills required to build on Dani’s efforts. We are fortunate to have someone of Katy’s caliber ready to take this next step,” he added.

There will be an internal search to fill Saalfeld’s current position, which is expected to wrap up by the time she officially takes on the director role.  “We have a deeply committed, highly experienced and mature leadership team in enrollment management that is poised to help us with the transition to Katy’s leadership,” Teller said. “While we will miss Dani, changes like this do provide opportunities for others to step up into new roles and demonstrate their ability to take on new challenges,” Teller said.
