Annual Al Walker Lecture to feature Scott Winterroth Oct. 13

The NIU Department of Communication and the NIU Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) cordially invite the public to attend the 2016 Albert Walker Lecture on Thursday, Oct. 13, in the Holmes Student Center, Sky Room (16th Floor), at 7:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

This year’s lecturer, Scott Winterroth, is an NIU alumni and has 10-years of professional experience in the integrated marketing and communications fields, specializing in digital and social media strategy. He is the marketing manager for McCormick Place/SMG where he manages digital communication strategy for the nation’s largest convention center.

Prior to this position, Scott worked in the corporate communications department of the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (MPEA), then owner and operator of Navy Pier, the Midwest’s top leisure tourist destination, and McCormick Place. During his tenure at the MPEA, Scott championed for the initial social media strategy for the both facilities, which today continues to be an integral component of their external communication programs. 

Scott began his career working for a public relations agency where he assisted in the planning and implementation for a variety of for-profit and nonprofit accounts. 

In addition, Scott is an avid blogger, online marketer and is currently devoting his spare time to building an e-learning startup called ContentAcademy.com. 

The title of his talk is “Spin City: Exploring the evolution of the PR industry from 2006 – 2016.”
