Volunteers needed for Junior Achievement

September 13, 2016

junior-achievement-portraitNIU’s Financial Cents program and the College of Business are looking for volunteers to help with Junior Achievement (JA). JA is a program in the local K-12 schools that helps provide students with the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their future and make smart academic and economic choices.

NIU volunteers would deliver pre-created lesson plans to students about knowledge and skills in financial wellness, work readiness and entrepreneurship. JA programs empower students to make a connection between what they learn in school and how it can be applied in the real world – enhancing the relevance of their classroom learning and increasing their understanding of the value of staying in school.

This is a great opportunity for NIU students to apply their own learning into the classroom and build their resume. NIU also provides transportation to these events.

There is an informational session for any NIU student who is interested in learning more about the program on Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 5-6 p.m., in Barsema Hall, Room 300. Pizza and refreshments will be available after the brief meeting.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Office of Student Academic Success at 815-753-HELP or osas@niu.edu.
