Roses are red, violets are blue – who’s penned something new?

wnij-valentinesNorthern Public Radio is hosting a Valentine’s Day Relationship Poetry Contest.

Susan Porterfield, a published poet, editor and professor of English at Rockford University, is the judge.

To enter this contest, submit a 10- to 20-line previously unpublished poem about the themes and emotions surrounding Valentine’s Day. When read aloud, the poem should be 30 seconds to 60 seconds in length.

The deadline for entry is 11:59 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29. Only one entry per person will be accepted. Submit poems to nprpoetry@gmail.com.

Authors of the winning submissions will be invited to read their works on 89.5 WNIJ during Morning Edition the week of Feb. 8.

WNIJ is looking for submission from all ages. Authors younger than 18 should include their school names on the submissions so that that WNIJ can send letters of recognition for their participation.
