College of Ed spearheads food drive for Huskies Student Food Pantry

Huskies Student Food Pantry logoNIU’s College of Education is now accepting donations of food and personal hygiene products for the Huskies Student Food Pantry.

The pantry, which relies on donations and volunteers, strives to provide non-perishable, supplemental food and other necessities for NIU students who are in need of support.

Kathy Zuidema, who works in NIU Career Services and is the pantry’s founder, estimates that as many as 1,500 NIU students could be experiencing food insecurity on any particular day. The most pressing needs are peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, pasta sauce and soup, as well as paper towels, toilet paper, deodorant and toothpaste.

The college will be collecting donations through Wednesday, Dec. 16. The goal is 500 pounds. The collection box in located in Graham 321.
