NIU OneCard upgrade now available

September 14, 2015

Victor E. Huskie’s OneCardOver the last year, Northern Illinois University has installed keyless proximity card access readers on nine academic buildings.

These buildings include the Nursing School, the Engineering Building and Faraday, La Tourette, DuSable, Barsema, Reavis, Watson and Montgomery halls.

The keyless proximity card access project was funded by a grant awarded to NIU by the Illinois Emergency Management Association. The grant also has provided funding for the purchase of new identification cards (OneCards) for all NIU faculty and staff in anticipation of further expansion of the card access system.

As proximity card access becomes more prominent within campus buildings and facilities, the university is making available resources for faculty and staff to upgrade to a OneCard with proximity technology. To determine if your OneCard has the necessary technology and how to obtain a new identification card, visit http://go.niu.edu/OneCardupgrade for details.

Faculty and staff can upgrade to a OneCard with the proximity technology free of charge. Faculty and staff are asked to obtain their OneCards cards by Friday, Oct. 16.
