Faculty invited to submit Themed Learning Community proposals for spring

July 29, 2015

Students in TLC T-shirtsNIU’s Office of Student Engagement & Experiential Learning (OSEEL) is currently accepting proposals from faculty and staff for Spring 2016 Themed Learning Communities.

Themed Learning Communities (TLCs) consist of two to three courses taken by the same cohort of approximately 25 students. These courses encourage learning across disciplines through the use of integrative assignments that utilize principles or concepts from each course within the TLC. Instructors of Themed Learning Communities work closely with one another to design their courses in such a way that easily facilitates this cross curriculum learning.

Instructors within Themed Learning Communities are offered the benefit of additional pay, which is contingent upon the TLC gaining adequate enrollment and moving forward as a bundle.

Themed Learning Community students have the benefit of a peer leader who will assist TLC students in their courses and with acclimation to the university.

Proposal forms are available online (on the right side of the screen). Spring 2016 TLC Proposals are due Tuesday, Sept. 15, to the Office of Student Engagement & Experiential Learning.
