NIU Director of Residential Communities Patty Martinez was the recipient of the James C. Grimm Leadership & Service Award at the Association of Colleges & Universities Housing Officers – International (ACUHO-I) opening ceremony Saturday evening in Orlando, Fla.
The James C. Grimm Leadership & Service Award honors individuals who show dedicated service and outstanding leadership by devoting themselves to strengthening the mission and objectives of the association.
“These esteemed individuals stand out as examples of those who have spent their professional lives giving of themselves to the campus housing profession as well as in service to ACUHO-I,” said David Stephen, chair of the ACUHO-I Awards & Recognition Committee, as part of an announcement in May. “We thank them for their contributions and congratulate them on their recognition.”
Martinez served on the executive board as the finance and corporate records officer, putting in countless hours to review and revise practices, and served as association president during the 2013-14 academic year. Her approach to this tireless volunteerism was summed up by a supporter who wrote, “She is a true servant-leader, wanting the best for the association at any given time.”
