Peer Mentor Summit scheduled March 27

NIU Honors Program studentsNIU’s Peer Mentor Summit will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, March 27, in the Barsema Alumni Visitor Center.

Registration is available online. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Students, faculty and staff are especially encouraged to attend if they are involved in mentoring or plan to be involved in mentoring in the future. Prospective students from NIU’s community college partners are also invited.

Session topics include “Maintaining Mentor Relations over Time,” and “Involving International Students in Mentoring.” The keynote address will be given by NIU’s LaBrian Carrington, academic counselor for Student Support Services and faculty leader of Mentoring Valuable Peers.

Faculty and administrators involved in organizing and running peer mentoring programs, and those who would like to be involved in such coordination, can attend special sessions geared toward that goal.

The University Honors Program and the NIU Alumni Association are sponsors of the event. Co-sponsors include the Office of the Provost; the Office of Student Engagement and Experiential Learning; NIU Outreach, Engagement and Regional Development; and the College of Education.
