Campus-wide town hall meetings planned January 29

Baker-town-hallNIU President Doug Baker and Executive Vice President and Provost Lisa Freeman will host two town hall meetings Thursday, Jan. 29, at the Holmes Student Center’s Carl Sandburg Auditorium.

The meetings are intended to engage campus students and employees about program prioritization and other strategic imperatives for the university.

All employees are encouraged to attend one of the sessions, which take place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

At each town hall, the campus will be updated on key strategic initiatives around the effort to enhance NIU’s recruitment efforts and improve retention. In addition, the president and provost will cover in some detail program prioritization, outlining what it is, what activities are being initiated and the process and timetable for the work that will be done in this area.

President Baker also will address any questions that staff and faculty have about any issues that are of interest.

Town hall meetings have been used by President Baker from time to time address items of critical importance to the NIU campus community as well as answer questions regarding a variety of topics affecting the university. The two spring town hall meetings held Jan. 29 are part of a continued commitment to keep NIU stakeholders informed of key university initiatives.

In keeping with the importance of this event, the university has authorized release time for employee attendance at this event, including hourly Operating Staff, subject to operational requirements. Supervisors have been asked to facilitate participation for those planning to attend.

For those unable to attend either event in person, the town hall meetings will be streamed online through Adobe Connect. They will also be archived on the NIU website.
