DENVER, Colo.—A Northern Illinois University graduate has received one of the insurance industry’s highest distinctions.

Debra Newman, founder and president of Newman Long Term Care, has been named in Insurance Business America magazine’s Hot 100 list for 2015. This annual list recognizes 100 people who have made waves in the insurance industry over the past year.

Honorees are nominated by their peers and chosen after careful consideration by the editorial panel. They range from small-town insurance brokers to CEOs of international companies to congressional leaders.

“The Hot 100 represents the best of the best the insurance industry has to offer. These are true thought leaders and influencers in our industry,” said IBA senior journalist Caitlin Bronson. “This list is very much a ‘who’s-who’ of power players and innovators in insurance.”

Newman Long Term Care is one of the largest long term care insurance agencies in the country, and Debra Newman is a leading expert on long term care issues. Recognized nationally in 2007 as one of the top 10 on the Power List of Who’s Who in Long Term Care Insurance, Newman was also named a 2009 Five Star Wealth Manager by Twin Cities Business and Minneapolis-St. Paul magazines and in 2009 was acknowledged by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal as one of the top 25 Women in Business.

In addition to serving as chair of the Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education (LIFE) board of directors, Newman is also past president of the Association of Health Insurance Advisors and the Minneapolis chapter of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA). She is also president of NAIFA Minnesota.

Newman earned her bachelor’s degree in marketing from the NIU College of Business in 1975.
