ARTigras organizers: Save Saturday, May 2, for celebration of art

November 19, 2014

artigras logoHere’s a good way to stop shivering amid the late-autumn freeze: Start thinking spring.

Better yet, start thinking ARTigras.

ARTigras – rhymes with Mardi Gras – will make Saturday, May 2, a day for creative expression via the largest art festival DeKalb has ever seen. Thousands of energetic people are expected to come together in the premier event for art, community and the individual spirit.

NIU’s School of Art and Design invites everyone from the NIU and DeKalb communities to come celebrate in participating, creating and viewing art with current and graduating art students.

Several major events are being planned as part of the ARTigras celebration.

The kickoff event is an art parade from downtown DeKalb to campus, showcasing the creative spirits of DeKalb and NIU and fostering community, collaboration and celebration through art-making. Family, friends, students, schools and community groups are invited to participate in a moving work of art or to cheer as spectators.

After the parade, several opening receptions of art student showcases and exhibitions will take place on campus. Attendees also can board the ARTigras shuttle to the home of NIU President Doug Baker and First Lady Dana Stover, where they can view more student art.
