Monster Truck Nationals roaring Feb. 22 into Convo

October 24, 2014

Lucas Oil Monster Truck NationalsThe Lucas Oil Monster Truck Nationals invites the DeKalb County community to the Bigfoot Birthday Bash and Smash Tour, which roars into the NIU Convocation Center at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22.

Tickets go on sale Friday, Oct. 31. This the first time monster trucks will return to the Convocation Center in 10 years.

Bigfoot, the original monster truck, is celebrating its 40th birthday in 2015, and the Lucas Oil Monster Truck Nationals is celebrating with a birthday bash where families can come help celebrate while watching five of the world’s best monster trucks go all-out in crashing, car-crushing, axle-wrenching, high-flying competitions.

Joining the fun and making its debut will be RockZilla, a green, fire-breathing fast-moving mechanical creature standing more than 10 feet tall and stretching 25 feet long. RockZilla will thrill the audience between monster truck runs with danger-hungry feats that will amaze and delight the families who will attend the special Birthday Bash shows.

Other monster trucks coming to DeKalb include Retro Bigfoot, TrueMax Bigfoot, Raminator and Rammunition.

Each of these high-powered beasts weighs in at more than 10,000 pounds, defying gravity and the physics of acceleration in loud and furious head-to-head competition. The thousands of horsepower powering these machines will be unleashed in events such as the Wheelie Challenge, the Long Jump, the Donut Competition, side-by-side Racing and the no-holds-barred freestyle competition.

40-bigfoot“Every monster truck fan in the world knows that Bigfoot is the truck that started it all. It’s been 40 years of fun and excitement for families everywhere thanks to this amazing machine, its creator Bob Chandler and the whole team of Bigfoot pros at the shop in St. Louis,” said Mike Moore, president of family events for the Lucas Oil Monster Truck Nationals.

“We think it’s time to salute Bigfoot with a big birthday bash and invite families to come celebrate,” Moore added. “We believe that a great monster truck show is made by great trucks, and with three Bigfoot trucks and the elite team from Hall Brothers Racing of Raminator and Rammunition, we’ve put together our best, most competitive lineup ever.”

A special Pit Party will be held in the arena two hours prior to each performance.

Families can get up close to the monster trucks, score autographs from the drivers, take photos of the monster trucks, enjoy interactive displays and celebrate with special birthday bash activities. The Pit Party is included in the price of admission.
