Be Bold Now event highlights bold actions

“That blew me away.”

“Amazing.”

That was the reaction of Northern Illinois University President Doug Baker to the initiatives presented at the October 22 Be Bold Now event focused on putting students first at the Holmes Student Center’s Duke Ellington Ballroom.

Rons new triangle design 4The Wednesday evening program featured updates on projects already underway as a result of spring and summer Bold Futures workshop sessions. Presentation topics included the following:

  • THE ASK ME CAMPAIGN, presented by Jay Orbik, director of Media Services;
  • STUDENT SUCCESS MAPS, presented by Margee Myles, director of Advising, College of Education; and
  • EARLY ALERT AND REFERRAL SYSTEM, presented by associate vice president of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Kelly Wesener, vice provost Anne Birberick and Dana Gautcher, director of Student Academic Success.

“That is just amazing. You guys took the idea of the triangle and operationalized it,” Baker added. “You’ve done it in a very short period of time and made a big impact.”

Following the event, attendees were treated to live jazz music in the Gallery Lounge, the College Grind and in Ellington’s, along with seasonal refreshments.
