Attention, artists! President Baker wants holiday card designs

September 23, 2014

Brrrr ... it's the Polar Vortex!Although the autumn chill has yet to settle in permanently, and the leaves mostly remain green and still clinging to their trees, the holidays are not far away.

NIU President Doug Baker sends holiday cards throughout the university and community each winter, using designs created by NIU students.

Baker’s new annual tradition allows him to support the creativity and talent of NIU students and the university community as a whole to celebrate student achievement.

Themes for artists to consider include NIU during wintertime, how they observe the holidays or even the general sensation surrounding the season.

All NIU students are invited to participate through their preferred medium. All 2D media is accepted (digital, photography, illustration, prints, paintings and drawings), and students should keep in mind the 5-inch-by-7-inch format of a card.

Students can submit their entries online. All work must be photographed and submitted as JPEGs at 72 DPI. The deadline is Monday, Oct. 20.

Winning entries will be announced Friday, Oct. 24. If chosen, the original artwork must be made available for professional photographic documentation. The first-place finisher will win $500; second- and third-place artists each will receive $300 while the honorable mention prize is worth $100.
