Nominations sought for outstanding international educators, students

Photo of international flagsNIU’s Division of International Affairs invites nominations for the 2014 awards to recognize outstanding practice in international education.

Recognition is planned for:

Nominations are due by Friday, Oct. 10.

The awards will be announced during International Education Week, which begins Nov. 17, at the International Recognition Reception, scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to1  p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, in the Holmes Student Center Sky Room.

The “Outstanding International Educator at NIU” honors a faculty or staff member who, over time, has significantly contributed to international education at NIU. A modest travel reimbursement of $500 is given to the faculty or staff member chosen for the year.

Past recipients have made sustained contributions over time to the enhancement of international education at NIU through teaching, research, artistry, public service and/or student service efforts.

Photo of a globe wearing swim gogglesThe non-monetary Outstanding Department Contribution to International Education at NIU recognizes a department that has made significant contributions in support of the mission statement of the Division of International Affairs: “Bringing the perspectives of the world to Northern Illinois University and the expertise of Northern Illinois University to the world, through international mobility of faculty, students and ideas.”

Nominees for Outstanding Student Contribution to International Education are undergraduate and graduate students in good academic standing and enrolled at NIU during the semester the award nominations are due.

Acknowledgement of these students encourages their classmates to participate in, and create greater visibility for, international education at NIU. Each recipient will receive a plaque commemorating the award and a gift certificate to the NIU Bookstore.
