July 24, 2014

NIU Huskies cross countryThe Northern Illinois University cross country team released their 2014 schedule Thursday. The slate includes eight meets, including a nighttime home meet and five total competitions in the state of Illinois.

“We have an exciting schedule that will prepare us to be at our best for the MAC and NCAA Midwest Regional championships,” said Huskie head coach Greg Hipp. “The level of competition we will see gradually increases through the season. I am excited to see our group continues to build off our strong spring season. We are looking forward to the championship season in November.”

The Huskies start the season Friday, Aug. 29, in a unique way when they host the NIU Night Rave. With a scheduled start time of 8 p.m., the meet will take place under the lights of the NIU Outdoor Sports Complex – located just north of the NIU Convocation Center – on a two-mile course.

Two weeks later, NIU makes the first of three trips to Peoria, Illinois, when they run in the Bradley Intercollegiate at Detweiller Park.

NIU opens October with a trip to Louisville, Kentucky, for the Greater Louisville Classic on Oct. 4. The Huskies then close out their regular season at the Bradley Classic on Peoria’s Newman Golf Course.

The postseason begins Nov. 1 with the Mid-American Conference Championships at Central Michigan. The Huskies, though, will take a quick break from the postseason on Nov. 7 for the third edition of the Huskie Open.

NCAA competition opens Friday, Nov. 14, with the Midwest Regional Championships at Bradley. The NCAA National Championships take place on Nov. 22, at Indiana State’s LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course.
