Northern Illinois University alumni and friends are invited to take a Chicago River cruise on July 23 to explore Chicago’s architecture.
A tour guide will share the history on how Chicago became noted as the birthplace of the skyscraper. Learn how famous architects used the Great Chicago Fire as a stepping stone to begin their vision and how Montgomery Ward prevented Grant Park from becoming an industrial factory zone.
Relax on the Ft. Dearborn vessel with a skyline view of Chicago and enjoy complimentary hors d’oeuvres and wine, beer and soda.
Guests will meet at the Chicago Line Cruises ticket office at 465 N. McClurg Court, Chicago, to board at 7 p.m. and the boat will return at 9 p.m.
The cost is $40 for NIU Alumni Association members and $50 for nonmembers. Visit myniu.com to register.
