Don’t toss the tab: Campaign for charity continues through summer

May 19, 2014

Ronald McDonald House Charities logoIn 2012, NIU Student Involvement & Leadership Development began the Tabs Can Make a Difference campaign, which focused on showing members of the NIU community that even small acts of service can make a difference in someone’s life.

Since then, the university has collected 200 pounds of pop tabs to be donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

NIU is well on its way to collecting 1 million pop tabs and becoming a part of the Ronald McDonald “Thanks a Million” Club.

The Tabs Can Make a Difference Campaign is meant to help the Ronald McDonald House Charities, which provide families with children in the hospital a low-cost place to stay, eat and recharge while their loved ones are receiving the critical care that they need. These tabs are recycled and the money that Ronald McDonald House Charities receives goes toward paying overhead costs at its facilities.

Tabs will continue to be collected over the summer and during the 2014-2015 academic year.

Tabs can be placed in the red distribution bins in front of New Hall and in the Campus Recreation Center. Need a tab house? Tab house full? Email requests to communityservice@niu.edu.
