Thursday’s SURS presentation to stream on NIU Today, campus TV

April 23, 2014

SURS: State Universities Retirement System of Illinois logoRepresentatives from the State Universities Retirement System are coming to campus Thursday, April 24, to answer questions from employes at or near the end of their careers.

Their visit is in response to changes made by legislators last year that could pose dramatic – and expensive – impacts for some of those employees.

Affected workers are invited to a special presentation at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 24, in the Carl Sandburg Auditorium of the Holmes Student Center.

For those who cannot attend or cannot find seats, campus Channel 20.1 and NIU Today will stream the proceedings. Viewers who choose the campus TV option must perform a channel scan to make sure digital Channel 20.1 appears; it might not come right after analog Channel 20 on their TVs.

Thursday’s event is part of several ways SURS is trying to help.

A list of frequently asked questions, a fact sheet on the money purchase option and a link to register online for upcoming webinars on the impact of changes in pension law all are available online.

Especially at risk are those whose SURS annuity calculation is higher under the money purchase formula. Reforms approved last December could significantly reduce the amount of their retirement annuity should they choose to retire on or after July 1, 2014.
