Axel Lagerlof and Dor Amir have once again received recognition from the Mid-American Conference for their stellar play on the court. The tandem has been named MAC Doubles Team of the Week for the fourth time this season.
Lagerlof and Amir produced a much-needed win for the team on Saturday against Toledo. They beat Garrett Cona and Stjepan Sisko, 8-3. The win helped the team take the doubles point in the affair, which proved to be vital as the Huskies won the overall match by a single point (4-3).
The Huskie pairing has had an outstanding spring season, collaborating to produce a 17-2 record in 2014. Combined with their fall record, the duo is 21-6 in the 2013-14 season. They have cracked the ITA doubles rankings in two isolated weeks this year. On Feb.11, they were ranked No. 37 in the nation. On April 8, they came in at No. 83 in collegiate tennis.
NIU’s top tandem and the rest of the team will look to finish the regular season strong Friday, April 18. The Huskies will host the Buffalo Bulls for a 1 p.m. match. With a win, NIU will finish first in the conference.
