Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn will visit NIU at noon today to discuss his plan to make higher education more affordable and accessible by doubling the state’s investment in the Monetary Assistance Program (MAP) over the next five years.

Quinn will hold a news conference at the Barsema Alumni and Visitors Center, 231 N. Annie Glidden Road. NIU senior Michelle Romero, a political science major and MAP recipient, also will speak during the event.

Approximately 5,600 NIU students received MAP grants in the fall of 2012, amounting to $11 million in state student aid.

The news conference is open to all. It also will be televised live on campus channel 20.1.
