NIU’s Office of Student Engagement and Experiential Learning and the S.E.R.V.I.C.E Committee are hosting the first Community Engagement Showcase.

Students who have participated in community-based outreach initiatives in the current academic year should consider taking  part Tuesday, April 22. The event coincides with Undergraduate Research and Artistry Day.

NIU is working hard to make sure every student receives recognition for all the effort they put forth: Create a small presentation and register for the showcase!

Why participate? Take advantage of the chance to showcase your hard work. Network with students and professionals alike, and grow your ability to complete more service learning in the future.

Who can participate? Undergraduate students currently enrolled at NIU who have completed service work during the 2013-2014 academic year.

What counts as service work? Any community-based outreach work or research based on community service work and/or improvement. This could be work completed as part of a service learning course such as Community Leadership and Civic Engagement, for a project completed in class, during participation in an internship or with any student organization, which can include Greek Life, Student Involvement and Leadership Development or STEM Outreach. Projects completed can be both small- and large-scale. Any effort made to improve the community and society at large counts.

Acceptable Presentation Formats: Digital videos, photograph montages, poster presentations and tabletop displays.

The deadline for registration is Friday, March 7. For more information, call (815) 753-8154 or email engage@niu.edu.
