As a reward for their victory over the eighth-ranked doubles team in collegiate tennis, Dor Amir and Axel Lagerlof have been honored as the Mid-American Conference Doubles Team of the Week.
The Doubles Team of the Week award is new to the MAC this year, and Lagerlof and Amir have claimed the first honor of its kind.
The pairing is being recognized for a victory Friday, Jan. 17, over Ravi Patel and Ryan Goodman at Drake. In preseason polls, the two were ranked eighth in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Back in October 2013, this doubles team won the ITA Central Region’s Doubles Championship.
Amir and Lagerlof faced Goodman and Patel in the No. 1 doubles match to begin the season. It was the only doubles match of the day to not head to a tiebreak as the NIU tandem won 6-3.
