NIU President Doug Baker will speak Saturday to members of the Illinois Board of Higher Education Student Advisory Committee, which is meeting at NIU.

Baker will welcome the group of about 50 students from across Illinois with news of his accomplishments in his first six months on campus. The group also will hear from Illinois State Rep. Tom Demmer, R-Rochelle, during a noon luncheon.

The meeting begins at 10 a.m. in the Heritage Room of the Holmes Student Center.

Morning discussions include conversations about current activities, ideas and successes of the various student government bodies represented. The afternoon agenda is devoted to committees.

Each public university in Illinois, community college and even private universities are invited to have representatives come to discuss issues regarding college students. The group meets bimonthly to talk about the issues and then raise them up to the IBHE.

The group also serves as a resource to compare and contrast student governments at universities and gain knowledge from each other. The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, March 1, at Columbia College in Chicago.
