Training is mandatory, five opportunities are offered in February
The eighth annual NIU Cares Day is right around the corner!
From 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 12, more than 1,000 students will be out in the DeKalb community assisting with various projects for not-for-profit organizations, community agencies and DeKalb county residents. Volunteer registration will occur in waves this year, starting with team leader registration in February and team member/individual registration in March.
Volunteer teams should contain no more than 15 people and must designate one individual to serve as the team leader (the leader and primary contact person for the team). Large organizations will need to break into multiple teams of 15 or less.
Some team ideas include a student organization, residence hall floor, a study group, group of friends, carpool crew, and/or co-workers. In order for a team to be added to the online roster, the team leader must attend a MANDATORY orientation session.
Orientation sessions will be held on the following dates:
Thursday, Feb. 13
6 to 7 p.m.
Stevenson Smart Classroom
Monday, Feb. 17
Noon to 1 p.m.
Campus Life Building, Room 100
Wednesday, Feb. 19
7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Neptune Smart Classroom
Wednesday, Feb. 26
10 to 11 a.m.
Stevenson Multipurpose Room
At this orientation session, team leaders will receive information on new NIU Cares Day policies and have an opportunity to register their teams for the big day. Team leaders MUST attend just one of these sessions for their team to appear on the online registration roster, which will be available online between Saturday, March 1, and Friday, March 28.
