NIU welcomed several new employees in 2013, including President Doug Baker, who made some significant hires of his own.

Eric Weldy

Following a 10-month national search, NIU hired Eric A. Weldy as its new vice president for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.

The former associate vice president for Student Affairs at Florida State University began his NIU duties July 1.

Sean Frazier

Fifteen days later, Baker introduced Sean Frazier as the new associate vice president and director of Athletics.

The new Huskie boss was called a talented and proven leader whose emphasis on student-athlete academic and athletic success perfectly fits the philosophy Baker is putting into play at NIU. He began in August.

Tom Phillips

On Aug. 28, Baker named Tom Phillips as NIU’s new chief of police.

Phillips, who has been deputy chief with the University of Chicago Police Department, has a strong reputation for community policing and inspiring excellence through ethical leadership. He began his work Sept. 16.
