NIU’s College of Law was ranked among the Top 10 law schools for having the most diverse faculty by the Princeton Review, as published in its 2011 edition of Best 172 Law Schools released this month.
Ranked No. 9 in the nation, this is the sixth year since 2005 that NIU Law has been named on this prestigious list and among the Top 10 schools for diverse faculty. Nearly 40 percent of the full-time faculty are people of color and 40 percent are women.
“We are extremely proud of this accomplishment, as our community is deeply committed to diversity in every respect,” Dean Jennifer Rosato said. “The diversity of our faculty is the cornerstone of that commitment and benefits all of our students immeasurably.”
In their profile of NIU Law, Princeton Review highlighted NIU’s status as the only public law school in the greater Chicago area and their commitment to a high quality legal education.
The ranking also emphasized NIU Law’s outstanding commitment to fostering a sense of community and responsibility. Furthermore, the profile recognized NIU Law’s continuing emphasis on diversity among the faculty and student body, as well as in all aspects of legal education, including the presence of multiple divergent viewpoints both in and out of the classroom.
“We are pleased to recommend NIU Law to readers of our book and users of our website as one of the best institutions they could attend to earn a law school degree,” said Robert Franek, Princeton Review senior vice president of publishing. “We chose the 172 schools for this book based on our high opinion of their academic programs and offerings, as well as our review of institutional data we collect from the schools.”
The Princeton Review, a New York-based education services company, surveyed more than 18,000 students at 170 law schools and took their opinions, along with school statistics reported by administrators, to create 11 rankings lists.
Best 172 Law Schools has two-page profiles of the schools with write-ups on their academics, student life and admissions, plus ratings for their academics, selectivity and career placement services.
