December 6, 2013

2013 MAC Championship logoDETROIT— The Bowling Green State University Falcons jumped out to a 31-13 halftime lead and never looked back in ending Northern Illinois University’s perfect 12-0 season and capturing the 2013 Mid-American Conference championship with a 47-27 win.

NIU quarterback Jordan Lynch led the Huskies on a seven play, 64 yard drive to start the third quarter and adding the exclamation point with an eight yard touchdown run to make the score 31-20 with 12:23 left in the third. However, that would be the closest NIU would come.

Bowling Green scored the next 16 points to ice the game behind the passing of Matt Johnson, who broke a MAC Football Championship game record with five touchdown passes in earning MAC East MVP accolades.

NIU scored a final tally with 14 seconds left as Lynch scored on a two yard run. Lynch—the West Division MVP–finished the game 21-40 for 219 yards and one touchdown passing while rushing 26 times for 126 yards and two touchdowns.

The Huskies are bowl eligible and will find out their bowl fate Sunday evening.
