The Northern Illinois University track and field team starts its indoor season Friday, Dec. 6, at Grand Valley State when the athletes compete at the Laker Early Bird.

The meet begins at 2 p.m. CT with the weight throw and 60 hurdles prelims.

“The athletes and staff are looking forward to beginning our 2013-14 season,” said NIU head coach Connie Teaberry.

“They have trained this semester showing dedication and determination, which is what coaches look for in athletes. We are extremely young, but talented. This first competition allows the athletes and coaches to see where they are mentally and physically before finals and heading home for winter break.”

“Our freshmen have exhibited strong work ethic, while our upperclassmen have proven to be leaders. If these ladies continue to believe in themselves and their abilities, this season could be one for the record books.”

NIU comes into the season with a solid blend of youth and experience. The Huskies feature 16 upperclassmen on their roster, including school record holders Rebecca Cronin, Jamie Burr, Natalie Tarter and Juliane Totzke, along with 2013 conference meet scorer Sidra Sherrill.

The Huskies will face plenty of solid competition at GVSU. Including the host and Division II power Lakers, NIU will also compete alongside
