Alex Elias named MAC All-Freshman

November 8, 2013

The votes are in, and Alex Elias (Phoenix, Ariz./Boulder Creek) has become the fourth-ever women’s soccer player at NIU to be named to the Mid-American Conference All-Freshman Team.

Elias is the first Huskie named to this team since Lauren Eberts received the honor in 2009.

“Elias came into this season prepared to play,” head coach John Ross said. “She made the most out of her opportunities, and she has a bright future here at NIU.”

Elias started the season in the second unit for the Huskies, bringing energy to the team later in the game. After the first four games, she forced her way into the starting lineup. Elias started 15 of the last 16 games that NIU played, appearing in all 20 contests.

“We put her into the starting lineup when she got more comfortable,” Ross said. “Once she got acclimated to the college lifestyle, she was able to handle a starting role.”

The Phoenix native scored her first collegiate goal to tie up NIU’s game against Lewis, a match that the Huskies went on to win 2-1.

Elias was the only Huskie selected as part of any of the all-conference teams in the MAC this year.
