The Forward, Together Forward Scholarship endowment was created through the generosity of more than 1,770 donors to honor the five Huskies whose lives were lost Feb. 14, 2008. Gayle Dubowksi, Catalina Garcia, Julianna Gehant, Ryanne Mace and Daniel Parmenter were dynamic, selfless and hard-working individuals who added so much to the NIU community simply by being themselves.

Applicants for the scholarship must demonstrate strength of character as demonstrated through traits such as a strong work ethic, motivation, inspiration, a high regard for others, integrity and intellectual curiosity.

Students also must exhibit solid academic credentials as evidenced by at least a 2.5 cumulative NIU grade point average and good standing within their major as well as the university at large. Applicants should have successfully completed a minimum of 12 hours at NIU prior to the fall 2011 semester.

The scholarship is available for undergraduate students only.

The application is available on The February 14th Fund for the Forward, Together Forward Scholarship website and must be submitted electronically. Students will answer three essay questions and provide two recommendations.

The application deadline is Monday, Dec. 2; the deadline for recommendation submission is Monday, Dec. 9. Contact the Scholarship Office at (815) 753-4829 or scholarships@niu.edu for more information.
