Bauer to judge U.S. Open brass championships

Paul Bauer, director of the NIU School of Music, is one of two outstanding and internationally recognized brass performers and educators named to the  to the adjudication panel for the U.S. Open Brass Band Championships.

The annual one-day invitational puts traditional brass bands from around the nation – and around the world – in competition. This year’s event is scheduled to take place Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Norris Cultural Arts Center, 1040 Dunham Road in St. Charles, Ill.

Bauer holds a D. M. in trombone performance from Northwestern University.

He has taught applied trombone, euphonium and tuba, as well as low brass instrumental techniques. An active performer, clinician, conductor, lecturer in jazz studies and author, he is the past president of the Association of Illinois Music Schools.

His current academic focus is on the use of technologies to facilitate teaching, scholarship and service activities via Internet2.
