Springfield update: Veto session begins Oct. 22

Photo courtesy Illinois Board of Tourism.According to the Illinois Department of Central Management Services, the deadline for submitting documentation for the State of Illinois Retiree Group has been extended to Friday, Dec. 6, because of the federal government shutdown.

There is no need for anyone in this group to request an extension prior to Friday, Oct. 25.

Members of the Monetary Award Program Task Force, a group established by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission to promote retention and degree completion among MAP recipients, held their first meeting Sept. 25. The next meeting is scheduled Friday, Oct. 25, at Heartland Community College.

The task force is required to report its findings to ISAC and the General Assembly by Feb. 3, 2014.

Illinois Sen. Michael Frerichs, chair of the Senate Higher Education Committee, has begun a college affordability tour, with the first stop at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. There will be a total of seven hearings.

Legislators on the House Higher Education Committee will convene Tuesday, Oct. 22, for a subject matter hearing on performance-based funding and affordability. One day later, the House Economic Development Committee will meet for a subject matter hearing on the status of the School of Labor and Employment Relations at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

The fall veto session begins Tuesday, Oct. 22, in Springfield.
