NIU’s Presidential Commission on Persons with Disabilities has good news for campus community persons with disabilities who want to attend this weekend’s Corn Fest activities in downtown DeKalb.
TransVAC is offering free rides Saturday, Aug. 31 and Sunday, Sept. 1, to the elderly and those persons with disabilities.
To be placed on the routing list, call (815) 758-6641 by 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30. Callers then will learn where and at what time the shuttle will pick them up.
Because space is limited – the shuttle holds between 12 and 14 passengers at a time – festival goers are encouraged to call the dispatch center as soon as possible for receive preferred times.
In addition, NIU students with disabilities who want to attend Corn Fest can also use the FreedomMobile, an accessible paratransit system that runs during the same hours as the Huskie buses. The FreedomMobile is an on-call, door-to-door service throughout the DeKalb community.
