Promod Vohra, dean of the NIU College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, will participate today in an event hosted by Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth.

The White House Initiative on Asian American and Pacific Islanders is kicking off its first regional working group meeting at NIU-Hoffman Estates.

“I am pleased to welcome the congresswoman and those representing the Midwest Regional Interagency Working Group,” Vohra says. “Northern Illinois University places great value in engagement opportunities such as this to advance knowledge for the benefit of the people in our region, the state and the nation.”

The meeting will include remarks from Vohra and Duckworth, as well as presentations from the Small Business Administration, the General Services Administration, the Social Security Administration, the Department of Labor and White House Initiative Commissioners.

The regional working group was created to be a link between the AAPI community and federal resources and programs. President Barack Obama’s Executive Order 13515 re-established the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
