NIU earns more ‘veteran-friendly’ honors

U.S. Veterans Magazine Best of the Best 2013 badgeNIU has earned more accolades for the services it provides to military veterans, this time coming from U.S. Veterans Magazine.

Published by DiversityComm, the magazine this month released the results of its 2013 evaluation of the nation’s Top Veteran-Friendly Schools in addition to lists of Top Veteran-Friendly Companies, Top Supplier Diversity Programs, Top Government and Law Enforcement Agencies and more.

Hundreds of Fortune 1000 companies were polled for its 2013 Best of the Best evaluations.

Lists were compiled from market research, independent research, diversity conference participation and survey responses that were performed by DiversityComm’s agents and/or affiliates. This year, more than 250 companies and institutions participated.

“It is our firm belief that veterans possess the character, discipline and skills that every business can profit from,” says Mona Lisa Faris, president and publisher of U.S. Veterans Magazine. “This magazine was created to support our troops, and we at USVM are proud to recognize other businesses that are also making veterans a priority.”

NIU Military Student Services aims to centralize campus and community resources, enhance military students’ transitions to and from the university and provide holistic support to all military students as they persist to graduate from Northern Illinois University.

NIU Veterans Day cermony 2012Last December, Military Times ranked NIU at No. 28 in its 2013 Best for Vets: Colleges survey. The survey demonstrates widespread efforts by colleges and universities to accommodate veterans and active-duty service members.

Earlier last fall, in October, NIU earned a spot on Victory Media’s coveted Military Friendly Schools® list, which honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as students and to ensure their success on campus.

U.S. Veterans Magazine strives to open up employment, business and supplier opportunities within the federal government and corporate America for veterans, transitioning service members, disabled veterans, spouses and veteran business owners.
