Open forums planned June 3, 4, 5 to meet trio of hopefuls for Black Studies associate director

NIU Center for Black StudiesCandidates for the position of associate director for the NIU Center for Black Studies will take questions at a series of open forums planned Monday, June 3, through Wednesday, June 5.

Finalists are Joy Coates, Nicholas Creary and Toni Sims Muhammad.

The center is an interdisciplinary academic program that offers undergraduate courses relating to African and African-American life and history. The center also researches, collects and analyzes data on all aspects of the African experience.

Students also can visit the center for advisement, information to academic and professional resources and networking. Dubbed the “home away from home” for African-American students, the center is also a place where students go to hang out and socialize with other students in a warm and welcoming environment.

All forums are scheduled from 9 to 10:40 a.m. in Room 505 of the Holmes Student Center.
