Gallery 214 to present ‘I said it. I couldn’t say it.’

Art exhibition examines facing personal truths, learning others’ truths

I said it. I couldn’t say it.“I said it. I couldn’t say it.” is an interactive installation about facing our own truths and learning the truths of others.

NIU’s MFA student Maria Dimanshtein will present her artwork from Tuesday, March 26, through Friday, March 29, at Gallery 214.

Visitors are invited to engage with the environment and contribute their own content, making the piece expand and change throughout the week.

Dimanshtein’s work attempts to locate a space – physical or mental – for honest self-expression and explore the experience of sharing as a means of getting to know the self and the others.

Here the internal intermingles with the external: the experience of the indoors vs. the outdoors, the concealed vs. the revealed. Visitors to “I said it. I couldn’t say it.” will meander between those realms, whether finding a place to hide or to be seen.

Gallery 214 is located on the second floor of the Visual Arts Building.

Hours are from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to noon Friday. An artist reception is planned from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 28, when refreshments will be served.
