University/Resident Theatre Association elects School of Theatre, Dance’s Gelman as treasurer

Alex Gelman, director of the NIU School of Theatre and Dance, has been elected treasurer of the University/Resident Theatre Association (URTA).

Gelman’s term is for two years. The NIU School of Theatre and Dance is a proud member of URTA, the most elite group of theater schools in the country.

URTA is the nation’s oldest and largest consortium of professional, graduate (MFA) theater training programs, and related professional theater companies. The association consists of 40 influential schools in training (39 in the United States and one in the United Kingdom), and 15 partnered theater companies.

URTA advances theater by connecting educational theater programs with professional theater and performing arts industries, promoting professional practices and artistic excellence in higher education, and assisting students with their transition into the profession.

Gelman previously served as a member of the URTA Board of Directors.
