WNIJ brings ‘Wait, Wait …’ to Rockford

Wait, Wait ... Don't Tell Me!The popular National Public Radio news quiz show “Wait, Wait … Don’t Tell Me” takes over the Coronado Performing Arts Center in Rockford at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 4.

This Chicago-based production features host Peter Sagal, official judge and scorekeeper Carl Kasell and a panel of writers and humorists who help celebrity guests and play-at-home listeners makes sense (and fun!) of the week’s big stories.

Local NPR affiliate 89.5 WNIJ airs “Wait, Wait … Don’t Tell Me” at 10 a.m. Saturdays with a rebroadcast at 1 p.m. Sundays. Programs also stream online and through mobile devices at www.wnij.org.

For years, listeners have urged the station to bring the “Wait Wait …” team to this area. Despite a long list of station requests for a limited number of road show opportunities, circumstances finally aligned for the Coronado and WNIJ to partner for this event.

Whether on the occasional road trip or working from their home base Chase Auditorium in downtown Chicago, the “Wait, Wait …” cast typically records the show Thursday nights in front of a live audience. A post-production crew works feverishly to polish and deliver the show for national broadcast that same weekend. The live studio audience gets inside access to all the ad-libs and re-takes that go into crafting the best possible show for air.

Tickets for the April 4 performance in Rockford are available now through the Coronado Performing Arts Center.
