NIU publications earn national recognition

EdAwardsNorthern Illinois University recently earned three awards for publications submitted to the Higher Ed Marketing Report’s 28th Annual Educational Advertising Awards competition.

NIU’s publication about educating tomorrow’s teachers, “iPledge allegiance,” was a bronze medal winner in the brochure category. The publication topped brochures from Cal State Northridge, Drexel, Liberty and George Mason, among others.

The brochure, written by Mark McGowan and designed by Barb Kolb, featured compelling copy about technology in education, online learning, STEM education, literacy and counseling presented in a unique format.

NIU’s 2012 President’s Report earned an award of merit in the annual report category. The report was the first of its kind for NIU and represented a departure from annual reports done in previous years. Content for the report was written by Joseph King and arranged by designer Mary Lou Read-Dreyer.

changing the world coverNIU also earned an award of merit in the direct mail category for its piece titled “Changing the World,” designed by Jeff Strohm.

The Educational Advertising Awards is the largest educational advertising awards competition in the country. This year, close to 3,000 entries were received from more than 1,000 colleges, universities and secondary schools from all 50 states and several foreign countries.

Judges for the Educational Advertising Awards consisted of national panel of higher education marketers, advertising creative directors, marketing and advertising professionals and the editorial board of Higher Education Marketing Report.
