‘Embrace Your Beauty’ fashion show set Feb. 28

own it! embrace your beautyModels of all shapes and sizes will own the stage of the Duke Ellington Ballroom at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, for the “Own IT! Embrace Your Beauty” fashion show event.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Hosted by the Women’s Resource Center, students from NIU and the DeKalb community will stand tall and walk the runway in the Holmes Student Center to help raise awareness of eating disorders and promote a healthy body image.

The Women’s Resource Center is working with Kohl’s, which is loaning clothing, accessories and shoes for the event.

Collaborative partners and supporters include NIU alumna Lee Ann Park, designer and owner of the Little in the Middle clothing line; the Ben Gordon Center in DeKalb; and Linden Oaks Hospital at Edward in Naperville.

Kohl's logoMaria Rago will serve as the special guest speaker. Rago, psychologist and clinical director of Eating Disorder Services at Linden Oaks Hospital at Edwards, is president and founder of Rago and Associates Counseling Services. She also serves on the board of directors of ANAD (Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders) and is an accomplished author.

Other  highlights throughout the night include a performance by Latin dance group Tumbao; a creative children’s art display from Campus Child Care; community models from DeKalb, Sycamore and Genoa-Kingston high schools and Kishwaukee College; and tables of university and community resources.
