Orange Bowl rep enlists Victor E. Huskie to stir postseason football fervor across NIU campus

One day after the 12-1 Northern Illinois football team earned an unprecedented bid to play in the Discover Orange Bowl, a representative from the bowl came to DeKalb to whip up excitement.

Larry Gautier, a member of the football committee for the Orange Bowl, toured campus to distribute stickers for the big game.

At his side: the always spirit-filled Victor E. Huskie.

The Mid-American Conference champs meet ACC Champion Florida State on New Year’s Day at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Fla.

New head coach Rod Carey and his team will bring in 2013 at the first Bowl Championship Series bowl appearance in school and MAC history.Victor E. Huskie high-fives Larry Gautier, a member of the football committee for the Discover Orange Bowl.

Fans who can’t wait that long to congratulate the team are invited to a halftime pep rally Wednesday night when the NIU men’s basketball team hosts SIU Edwardsville. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the NIU Convocation Center.

One lucky student in attendance Wednesday night will also win a free trip to the game.
