The CSA Children’s Choir performs twice this holiday season.
At 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, the choir performs during the NIU Holiday Concert in the Concert Hall. The children’s choir shares the stage with the NIU choirs, the NIU Philharmonic and the DeKalb Festival Chorus. There is a fee for this concert.
On Wednesday, Dec. 12, the CSA Children’s Choir performs a variety of holiday and seasonal music at 7 p.m. in the Recital Hall. This recital is free.
The choir is directed by Mary Lynn Doherty, who is on the music education faculty at NIU and has been a children’s choir director for many years.
Members this fall are Fiona Arado, Julia Kim Yumin, Catrina Crones, Leah Kleiman, Jeena Crones, Savanna Molaro, Katie Hagaman, Ben Pflipsen, Caleb Hoffman, Lillian Schatteman, Maria Holloway-Racine, Athena Shelley-Davis, Finn Hostetler, Vani Subramony, Belle Irick and Owen Wragg. These children come from DeKalb, Sycamore, Franklin Grove and Rochelle.
Children ages 7 to 15 are welcome to join the group for the spring semester, which rehearses from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays. The spring semester begins Feb. 6, and those interested in joining the group are invited to new student placement auditions Jan. 30. Call for a time assignment.
The choir is one of seven ensembles offered by the NIU Community School of the Arts this year. The community school is sponsored by the NIU College of Visual and Performing Arts. Teachers are NIU faculty and students, as well as area professionals.
