NIU’s College of Engineering and Engineering Technology held its Scholarship Banquet & Alumni Awards event Nov. 1.
Bobby Kandaswamy, director at Intel Capital, and Michael Slavin, a registered patent attorney and the managing partner of McHale/Slavin law firm, were the recipients of the Outstanding Alumnus for the College of Engineering & Engineering Technology.
Kandaswamy is also an active participant in the local venture community, and a frequent speaker at various technology and investment conferences. Salvin has been the engineering manager at Beatrice Foods Co. and Arrowhead in Los Angeles, and his desire to complete law school led him to open a law firm.
Martin Kocanda, a visiting assistant professor and laboratory director at CEET, was honored by the Department of Electrical Engineering. Kocanda is active on campus by serving as the vice president of the NIU chapter for Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society.
Joel Brock was awarded for outstanding alumnus for the Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering. Brock is currently a manager at West Monroe Partners, where he works on the Workforce Optimization team. He also serves on the Industrial Advisory Board of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISYE) at NIU.
The outstanding alumnus for the Mechanical Engineering award was given to John McCuistion. McCuistion serves as chief engineer for Navistar, Inc., where he is responsible for all advances engine architecture and engine electrical distribution systems. He is known for his community involvement and volunteerism with the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Collegiate competition judging and the Greater Chicago Cavalier Rescue (canine breed rescue organization).
Jeffery Louis was named outstanding alumnus for the Department of Technology. Louis is currently a senior manufacturing engineer for IDEAL Industries Inc. responsible for preventive/emergency maintenance. Louis is also a part-time instructor in the department.
